Here's what Adam West thinks about the new Batman movies

Hollywood can't get enough of rebooting classics, and Batman is no exception. Over the last few decades, several actors have portrayed the Caped Crusader, including Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale and most recently Ben Affleck.

When it comes to television, however, there is only one Batman we know and love. It's Adam West, and he has some strong opinions about the superhero movies that have hit theaters over the last decade.

At New York Comic Con last weekend, the 88-year-old actor laid into the dark tone of the newer films.

"In the new movies, Batman is very full of vengeance and has deep-seated angst and so on," said West. "They're very dark."

Currently, the actor is promoting the new animated film Batman: Return of the Caped Crusader, which reunites West, Burt Ward and Julie Newmar. The new series, which came out earlier this week, closely follows the original television series, which developed a fun and campy vibe.

When comparing the television series and the newer films, Batman is almost unrecognizable.

"Enough violence," said West. "Let the costume work for you. Put a little humor into it."

That may be wishful thinking, with next year's much-anticipated Justice League slated to follow in the footsteps of its predecessors.

Until Batman lightens up on the big screen, we'll just have to relive the original television series on H&I's Saturday morning Comic Book Heroes.
