The internet is buzzing now that Star Trek: Discovery has an official release date. You can beam up to Discovery on September 24. The sixth live-action Trek series is slated to premiere at 8:30PM on CBS, as well as on CBS All Access. According to Variety, the second episode of the series will also be available exclusively on CBS All Access, the network's streaming service, on September 24.

The series will be split into two parts. The first part will run every Sunday, September 24 through November 5. The season will resume for part two in January 2018.

Discovery has had its share of rescheduling. Despite an originally scheduled air date of January 2017, the series has been delayed due to casting difficulties and behind-the-scenes mishaps. Les Moonves, the head of CBS, attributes the delays to post-production. Moonves says, "It's important to get it right, and Star Trek is the family jewel."

Plot details about the new series are few and far between, but we do know that Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead), Jason Isaacs, Michelle Yeoh, Anthony Rapp and Doug Jones are featured.

This release date is just four days shy of the 30th anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation. What do you think about the newest edition to the Star Trek canon?
