According to Kate Mulgrew, a lot went into making season six of 'Star Trek: Voyager' personal and extravagant
Posted: May 21, 2026, 1:48PMHeading into the sixth season of a show is no small feat; many shows never reach that point. Star Trek: Voyager is part of an iconic science fiction franchise, but the writers and cast still had to catch their audience's attention to get this far.
"I'd say the tone of Voyager is much freer, much more personal and much more dangerous as we get into season six," Kate Mulgrew, star of the series, told the New York Times in 1999. Mulgrew played Captain Kathryn Janeway.
"There's also no question that we're going after a broader-based audience now. We'd love to find more viewers, both those who watch 'Deep Space Nine' and anyone else who's willing to see what we're doing. When I say 'Voyager' is more personal, that's precisely what they've done. They're approaching the show from the inside out... It's no longer just about the ship, the constraints of the ship, and our circumstances," she added.
Season six of Star Trek: Voyager had everything from a mysterious cloud containing debris to three Borg drones stalking Seven, time-traveling aliens, and more.
"Our first episodes of the season have not only been more personal, but they've been extravagant, more so than ever before. And I mean that on every level. We've worked longer and harder hours, and we've probably spent much more money per episode."
