Poppy Montgomery, star of Without a Trace, had a life similar to her character Samantha Spade
Have you ever wondered how similar an actor is to their character? It depends. Sometimes they're total opposites, which is often why the actor takes the role. Other times, it's like they're paid to portray themselves on screen. For Poppy Montgomery, her life wasn't far from her Without a Trace character's.
On the series, Special Agent Samantha Spade got pregnant and started her journey as a new mother, and so did Montgomery in 2008. "I'm in love with my baby boy! It's been amazing. He is 8 months old already, and it's gone so quickly," the actress said to Early Show host Maggie Rodriguez.
Spade has a one-night stand and ends up pregnant (no similarities there), but the actor who plays the father of her child was Montgomery's real-life child's father, Adam Kaufman. "Samantha Spade has a one-night stand, and she gets pregnant, and it's Adam. He came in and played the baby-daddy, which is great. I'm not sure if he is coming back or not. They had a little falling out at the end of last season, and he disappeared, but we're waiting to see," she added.
As a new mom, the character got tougher, which Montgomery loved. "It's really cool. Now that Samantha is a new mother, she is tougher, and I keep beating people up and shooting people and chasing them down streets. It's great. It's a lot of fun. I've been working with these tiny little babies. Reminds me of when Jackson was so small. On the set, you get to meet my baby. And it's cool."
