The men of Bravo are certain that Westmoreland has not yet informed the enemy that they are losing, as Firebase Ladybrid continues to come under daily long-range artillery fire. Suddenly a helicopter approaches and lands despite the fact that the base is taking fire. It is the new company commander -- Captain Larry Heath -- a man who initially wins over the favor of his troops with gifts, but he proves to be a complete fanatic. Heath wants to attack despite the fact that it appears that the base is about to be attacked. Zeke and Goldman set them men to putting up a defense and get in trouble because of it. A large attack proves that Anderson was right when the firebase is over-run and Doc Matsuda, with only 15 days left of his tour of duty, is killed when he refuses to abandon his patient.

Soldiers
The squad is in heavy contact with a group of enemy soldiers, and after taking several casualties manage to be retrieved by two helicopters. Danny hears that his father is hospitalized after a near-fatal heart-attack and is given emergency medical leave. Danny finds that his father and mother have separated and his father has taken up with a younger woman who is loyal to him. Danny feels left out and alienated from a man who he already wasn't close to. While waiting for his father to get better, Danny meets Rudy Morales, a vet handicapped by wounds -- a bitter, broken man. Danny is seriously upset by this and further upset by an argument with his father. Meanwhile, Taylor and Ruiz decide that they need to be by Danny's side, so they talk Anderson into pulling some strings and getting their R&R in Bangkok changed to Honolulu. Once in Hawaii they are exposed to the "real"" world of mini-skirts and negative attitudes about the war."

Sgt. Saunders and his squad take refuge in a convent filled with mysterious nuns after Pvt. Temple and a Frenchman with important information are seriously wounded. When Lt. Hanley arrives with bad news regarding their own doctor, Saunders realizes he must force a German combat surgeon to save the dying men.

A Day in June
As the squad takes shelter during a fierce storm, Sgt. Saunders and the men reminisce about the events revolving around their arrival on D-Day. Flashbacks describe the camaraderie and hostility present as the bored soldiers await their movement orders in England, the tense journey in the transports across the English Channel and the platoon's harrowing assault on the shores of Normandy in the first wave.

The Fighter Pilot
Straight from the Pacific, a trio of hotshot fighter aces roar into Archbury field, instantly making a bad impression with Col. Gallagher. Their leader, Capt. Dejohn, a seasoned veteran with a burning desire for combat and little discipline, bristles at his new commander's reprimand. Things only get worse after Gallagher flies rings around Dejohn in a simulated dogfight in an effort to acclimate him to the differences in the European air war. Dejohn takes the lesson as a personal affront and launches a vendetta against Gallagher. The situation approaches critical as evidence starts to appear that the new pilots arrived at the 918th under scandalous circumstances.

To Seek and Destroy
A V-1 rocket crashes in Sweden and the Allies want it. They recruit rocket expert Anthony Carmichael. On the mission, Gallagher, Carmichael and Komansky fly to Sweden in an unmarked plane. They have engine trouble and the compass fails so they follow a German plane in. The german plane is a diplomatic courier carrying the designers of the V-1 guidance system. They are also there to retrieve the rocket. Carmichael drinks too much and reveals his mission to a German operative.
